There are three
programs for you to help us care for DEC:R3 horses:
adoption, fostering, and on-site care giving. DEC:R3 does not sell
horses, however, there is an adoption fee.
Adoption
We try to find caring homes for all rideable horses. To qualify for
adoption, your facility (or boarding situation) must meet the same
strict criteria that we place on our own facility. Regular health
exams, hoof and teeth care and certain inoculations are required
after the horse moves to its new home. DEC:R3 horses may
not be adopted for breeding purposes.. An adoption fee will be
charged to help recover rehabilitation costs. Adoption forms will be
online soon.
Fostering
Horses that are not rideable are often suitable for companion
animals. DEC:R3 horses that are not available for
adoption are generally placed in the foster program. Fostering a
horse means that the horse will move to your facility and you are
responsible for all of its care and costs of upkeep under the
Center's guidelines. Foster
facilities must meet the same criteria of adoption facilities.
Because you are offing an off-site home for a DEC:R3
animal, care expenses are tax deductible. Online fostering forms will be available soon.
On-site Care Provider
A unique opportunity to have a hands-on learning experience. DEC:R3
experienced staff teaches you how to provide daily care for a horse,
determine costs of upkeep and how to meet a horse's needs. As a
premium member of DEC:R3, you have the chance to select a
horse and care for it on a daily basis. This unique "Save a Horse" education
program helps prepare you to adopt or foster a horse.
Sponsoring
You may also join our sponsorship program. Sponsors receive a photo
and history of their horse and recognition on the website. Sponsors
are welcome to visit their horses at the facility. More information
is available on the "you can help!" page of
this site. |
