In 2002, Michele De Lorenzo started
the rewarding endeavor of providing homes and care for horses in need. She
took in retired broodmares, went to farms and took care of sick and
injured animals and rescued a starved, rain rot infested broodmare
that she had known as a beautiful, sleek, well cared for horse
at a previous home. Her husband, Ron Brandon, supported Michele
through this effort with understanding love and money. Five miles
away, Sue Baker and Don Grant were taking in severe chronic founder
cases. With Don's farrier skills and Sue's nutrition expertise, they
were able to rehabilitate these horses and return them to soundness.
After 5 years of taking in farm
animals of all sorts, providing loving care for a number of horses
at absentee owner farms and feeling that "if only she could do
more"...an anonymous benefactor offered to provide the
necessary funding to expand into a full rescue operation. In the fall of
2007, Michele, Ron, Sue and Don combined their professional and
horsemanship skills to make an effort to establish a well-grounded
rescue, rehabilitation and retirement center - Destiny
Equine Center:R3.
A big thank you to Ron from all of us
for keeping the dream alive through his hard work, patience and
inability to say "no" to Michele!..
The vision of Destiny Equine Center:R3
is to provide a "new destiny" for equines and other animals that are
in need of rescue, rehabilitation or retirement. Animals coming to
DEC:R3 are rehabilitated so they can go on to start over
in new, caring homes or are permanently retired at the facility.
Destiny Equine Center:R3 also strives to educate horse
owners and potential owners to improve conditions and care for their
equines and raise public awareness of the issues that lead to
animals in need of rescue.
